Surrender

Growth demands a temporary surrender of security.

-Gail Sheehy

I was feeling a bit blah this morning. My second appointment for accupuncture didn’t go according to plan, but I don’t feel ready to write about it yet. I perked up when I clicked on my blog and found some comments that made me smile. Sara, from North of Chicago, was researching the word “surrender” and she found my blog. How cool is that! I just googled “surrender” and mostly found links to bakery shops and references to a song by Cheap Trick called Surrender. I did find the quote above, that I really like. Anyway, she read several of my entries and suggested I listen to the song, Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head. The lyrics are lovely.

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin’ seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin’ on my head, they keep fallin’

So I just did me some talkin’ to the sun
And I said I didn’t like the way he got things done
Sleepin’ on the job
Those raindrops are fallin’ on my head, they keep fallin’

But there’s one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won’t defeat me
It won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Cryin’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothin’s worryin’ me

[trumpet]

It won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Cryin’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothin’s worryin’ me

  1. Thanks for sharing the BJ song. The lyrics are lovely and he’s got great hair. I was singing it over the weekend.
No worries about the acupuncture right. Good for you for going in the first place. That took a lot of guts.
I just started reading your/Greg’s book. Your honesty and openness is inspiring and is helping me open up and face my fears. Writing in this blog makes me feel vulnerable, but I know that it’s what I need to do.
Surrendering happens at it’s own speed right. Thanks for your loving blog.

  2. I like the lyrics to the song! That is interesting that your blog was found from someone typing in “surrender”, I wonder how that works sometimes! Hope you’re doing well Barb! 🙂

  3. Barb – I just had to share that someone else was also writing about ‘surrender’ too. Check out this poem on a blog called Elise on LIfe…http://eliseonlife.wordpress.com/2012/04/08/how-to-surrender/

Also, I wanted to share how I got to your blog…it took some digging. I think I searched on something like ‘surrender definition’ or ‘surrender psychology’ or something of that nature. I found an article on Psychology Today and started looking through the related articles section and recent posts on that site. Somehow I ended up here! Those keywords make a difference!
